Peter Bol was born in 1947 and his facility for drawing was obvious from his earliest years. He studied fine art and graphics at the colleges of art in Hertogenbosch and Breda and began teaching at the Utrecht Art schools at the age of 23. He uses intense colors, austere forms and a lot of paint, regarding the drama as being an essential part of the painting. His themes are principally classic: the Dutch and French landscape, the still life, portraiture and the nude. |
